MOJO 119 Life is Fabulous

I will probably use this card for a friend's February birthday....day after Valentine's Day. The colors just work without being an "official" Valentine. I'd thought about coloring the woman and / or her hat, but I grew to like the black and white with a tiny red embellishment.

MOJO 118 VALENTINE

I needed a break from Christmas cards so it was fun to think about Valentine's Day. The paper is from Paper Studio, the ribbon from FXribbon, and the small hearts....no longer have the package to tell you! Sorry! The circle and heart boarder punches are all from Paper Studio as well.

I'd love MOJO to try a background with diagonals sometime just for a change. Let's see if anyone reads this for a new idea!

MOJO 117

Paper punches: Martha Stewart and Paper Studio
Paper: cardstock
Ribbon: FXribbon
Flower: Spare Parts

I seem to know many people with birthdays in Dec. and January so this all-occasion card will fit in with the season. I love browns and aqua / teal colors together and am having fun coming up with different patterns for them.

Thanks for visiting my blog! I hope you're making time during this busy season to play with paper too.

MOJO 116 Winter BD Card

My son has a January birthday, so I now have a card ready for him. When you live in WI, you know it's going to be a cold, memorable day! I have a similar card for sister Lisa in Michigan whose birthday is at the end of the month. I can't believe I'm so ahead of schedule!

Paper: stock from Hobby Lobby
Cuttlebug: Dots
Snowflakes: unknown....just know that I loved using them this week.
Small white snowflake: Dress It Up
ribbon: FXribbon
Paper Punched snowflakes: EK
Punched Circles: the Paper Studio
Teal Dots: Unknown

===============
Lately I've been "dedicated" to the brown / teal combinations; I love the colors. I enjoyed using a variety of snowflakes on the card and having fun using "Birrrrrthday" to reflect the chill.

Let it Snow

I'm just discovering Spellbinder's Nestabilities and thought I'd give the Inverted Scalloped Circles a try on this card, and I like it. I first embossed the gray paper from CTMH with a Cuttlebug snowflake pattern and then sanded it to expose the white core paper. The circles were layered and a snowflake from Dress it Up was added. The ribbon is from FX. I added the red "gems" and red background paper to give it a little more color.

I continue to wonder if MOJO will ever give us a pattern using diagonals or other triangular shapes for a change. I've only been active a couple of months, and I've only seen circles, squares, rectangles, and occasionally ovals.

Snowflakes

Punch: Paper Studio
Paper: card stock
Ribbon: ribbonFX
Embossing Pattern: Cuttlebug "Textures"
Snowflakes: unknown

I enjoyed working with simpler materials and a less complicated pattern during this busy week. I like the textured background the best, and found it worked well with the punched "flowers" too. I seem to have a candycane theme to many of the Christmas cards I've made this season, and used the ribbon to express that again.

I tend to put all my holiday embellishments in containers by category rather than keeping the packages to identify the companies. It feels too overwhelming to store and sort through so much, so if you have suggestions to improve my organization, I'd love to know what you do!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM WISCONSIN !

MOJO 113 MERRY CHRISTMAS

PAPER: Paper Studio and CTMH
candy canes: unknown...just part of my stash!
clear button: Arcrylic Gems
Punches: Paper Studio
Silver Ink: Writer Metallic Collection
Ribbon: RibbonFX (purchased at Hobby Lobby)

The bottom strip is the candy cane paper which is then repeated as a more obvious layer. I liked the mottled silver paper with the red / white themes and I used my silver metalic pen to add a few dots to the flower punches.

Merry Christmas

Paper: Hallmark and Paper Studio
Ribbon: Christmas Ribbon
Tree: unknown

I like that the Merry Christmas greeting is already on the paper and I didn't feel like I needed to add another message...perhaps too cluttered. I've been investing in new punches, so this was an opportunity to try out this combination and it seems to be the right size for this card. I wanted to repeat the ribbon and liked the tree embellishment to pull the lower design together. It's difficult to see, but the Merry Christmas paper is embossed with a holly pattern from Cuttlebug.

Pointsettia MOJO 111

I hope the day comes when I don't have to think so hard about combinations of paper and products to use to make cards. I love the challenges in spite of my skills!

Paper: Paper Studio and Hallmark
Embossing stamp and powder: Stampabilities / CTMH Z668 (gold) & Stamp-N-Stuff (red tinsel)
Ribbon: Craft Narrows
Rhinestones: Studio 8

The card itself is simple and the only somewhat time consuming part was figuring out what I wanted to do with the poinsettia. I used gold embossing powder on green and red paper and then cut them out and offset them so they'd have a layered look. I wanted to repeat the embossing and chose to outline the darkest square.

I used dots to raise them and the upper squares. I was pleased to find some left over red and gold ribbon that looked good with the flowers. The inside of the card also has an embossed pointsettia done in red in the lower right corner.

Friendship / MOJO 110

Paper: Paper Studio ; Paper Company

I've been trying to invest more in paper punches, so tried them out on this card. My favorite paper on this project is the metalic from Paper Company; I wish the solor in the lighter, scalloped area would have shown up better with my camera.

MOJO 109 "Thinking of You"

This will be used immediately for a family member who was killed in a car accident on Sunday. A truck pulled out in front of her on a highway and she died instantly.

Paper: butterflies....Paper Studio
solid: CTMH
Paper Punches: Stampin' Up, Paper Shapers, and Paper Studio

The card's colors include two shades of brown and creme. The butterfly paper had many possibilites and I liked the look and size of the large one the best and made it the focal point. A smaller butterfly was repeated on the message and another inside the card. I used a scallop paper punch for a ribbon effect and then sanded it for a little texture.

I struggled as to whether or not to use colored pencils (muted shades) and for the moment, I'll leave it as it is. Some of you have been at this longer and may have a suggestion or two to improve this before it's sent.

Chillin' in WI...MOJO 108

I really liked the snowman paper that included browns and blue, so I wanted to try using some not so traditional "snow" colors like brown on this card. I found a lt. blue snowflake in my box of embellishments that allowed space for a tied ribbon, and I like the look. I'm still not sure if I wish I'd have added a hint of blue to the snowflakes, so perhaps that'll be another card to try. The paper punch was part of a pair that also included one that embosses, so the inside of the card is decorated in each corner with that.

I wonder if MOJO ever uses diagonals or triangular shapes on cards. It would be nice to have those choices some weeks too.

MOJO Week 107

Paper: Close to My Heart
Liquid Glass: CTMH
Ribbon: RibbonFX

I enjoyed using the coordinated CTMH papers on this project, especially the large flower patterns which give the blocks more of a close up feel. I used liquid glass to enhance some of the dots and flower centers to match the ribbon. The center circle flower is raised with a "dot". At first I thought of using small brads below the squares, but they were too bulky on this card, and I'm glad I thought of using one of my tiny flower punches instead.

The inside of the card is a matching cream colored rectangle with a corner flower added for color.

I tend to not use "word tags" on the outside of my cards so they can be used for any occasion as needed; I'll add this once I know how it'll be used, usually on the inside.

Friendship in Bloom / MOJO Week 106

Left: Card interior

I really enjoyed the design of this card. The paper, ink, liquid glass, and paper flowers are from Close to My Heart (CTMH).
I liked the brown poka-dot ribbon and wanted to repeat that idea on the large paper flower using liquid glass; the same happened on the inside of the card. I love the chocolate and blush paper together as it seems to work year round with any kind of card. Of course, friendship cards are such fun to give and receive no matter how long you've known the other person.

Falling Leaves / MOJO Week 105

I decided to try a second pattern using CTMH fall paper along flowers from the Paper Station.

I used gold embossing powder to outline the square, and brads (CTMH) for the flower centers. Two strips of ribbon were used to highlight the 3 lower flowers, and finally I created the scallop look by cutting 1" circles from coordinting (CTMH) cardstock and embellished them with embossing powder and punched fall leaves. The leaves are cut from the same paper as the background.

===================================================================

Bold

All paper used in this project is from Close to My Heart. I've used gold embossing powder to frame the tea bag folding square, outline the leaf below it, and add portions of leaves to the 3 lower circles. The leaf has been raised by using a dot of liquid glass underneath it.

A leaf punch was used on the strip with contrasting paper behind it to show a variety of fall leaf colors. A gold ribbon was used to make the strip "pop" a little more.

Glad You're Here!

I'm excited to have found this site, and I look forward to learning from those of you who are skilled in the techniques of card making. I belong to a card club and for over a year we've been challenging one another to be more creative.

I've recently discovered several kinds of paper folding and am learning to incorporate those patterns into my card production. Sometimes the small squares of paper challenge my patience.

So, welcome to my blog and I look forward to learning from you, and I hope you'll find something you can use to help yourself.
